When travelling around Europe, many people like to take in the atmosphere and excitement of going to a football match. Europe has many world class teams, such as Manchester United and Barcelona, and you can watch the action by picking up football tickets prior to your travelling.

Some of the biggest games in the world take place in Spain, where clashes such as Barcelona vs. Real Madrid take place. The 2 teams have a strong rivarly and only a few lucky individuals manage to get tickets for such a high profile game. It is worth noting, however, you should have no problem finding tickets for lower games such as those which take place in the Championship in England.

Avoid going to football matches alone, especially if you are inexperienced, as it can be a daunting experience being surrounded by thousands of loud fans!

Finding accommodation, wherever you have decided to stay in France is extremely straightforward. Whether you’re booking online, through a tour operator or simply walking up to the hotel in person, it’s extremely simple. This is mainly due to the fact that there are a huge amount of hotels, apartments and villas on offer in and around France. That and the fact that it is still one of the most popular destinations in Europe. A France Holiday has a vast amount to offer the average tourist, whatever their desire or taste, they will find it in France.

Like most major European countries, there is a vast amount of accommodation to choose from in pretty much all regions of France. A popular choice, particularly with backpackers is caravaning and camping. There are numerous camp sites situated around France in both urban and rural resorts. Of course, most tour operators offer self catering holidays in France so you may also find a good deal on a self catering hotel or apartment if the whole camping thing isn’t really you. I know from personal experience that them French mornings can be extremely cold, whatever the time of year!

You might also want to consider some of the hostels situated around the major cities. I realise the name hostel might put a few readers off, however, some of the ones I have stayed in have been on par with some of the 3 and 4 star hotels around France!

If you‘re anything like me, you’ll be seriously considering a trip away this winter. For most of us in Central Europe, travel is relatively cheap these days with so many low cost airlines offering rock bottom flight costs, especially out of season throughout the winter months. This reason alone is making more and more people travel at the times when they would normally be staying at home with loved ones. Popular destinations, particularly in Europe this winter include France, Portugal and Spain. All of these countries boast a wide range of winter resorts at a price that most people can afford, especially when coupled with the low cost flights. A popular choice for winter holiday makers is the rental of a private villa or apartment. This can sometime be a little more expensive, but it’s nice to have the privacy, especially at Christmas time. The villas in Spain usually have a lot of vacancies around Christmas as many people opt for beach front hotels. Algarve villas also prove a popular choice with more and more people choosing Portugal as a winter travel destination each year. Whatever you end up doing, it’ll be nice to escape the snow, if just for a week!

Backpacking - Paying The Way

Backpacking, as much fun as it is, can become expensive. Younger backpackers, especially those traveling from country to country, often need to take on work in order to fund their travel expenses in the various countries they visit. This if often a fun way for them to see the world and get some much needed funds in their back pocket at the same time.

A good friend of mine from here in Australia is currently on a backpacking tour of Western Europe and has opted to spend a few months in Scotland, United Kingdom. He is working in order to generate the necessary funds to travel over to the United States in the spring. He has informed me that finding jobs in Scotland is extremely simple compared to here in Australia. Apparently, pretty much all available jobs in the area are posted online which makes finding a job quite easy and temporary work especially is quite easy to come by. Apparently. From what he tells me, the Scottish jobs on offer are pretty much the same as over here. He is currently working delivering parcels from company to company. Hopefully he will generate the cash he needs quite quickly, it doesn’t sound like my cup of tea!

Anyway, the point of this post is, if you’re looking to travel around the world and don’t have the funds available, consider spending a few months here and there and doing a bit of work at the same time. The work isn’t permanent, I’m sure anyone can rough it for a few months and get to see a great new country at the same time.

The first thing you need to do, when planning a trip abroad is learn as much as possible about your destination. Not just attractions such as nightlife and excursions, but the other elements, mainly safety, security and local custom. A travel blog operated by someone from the country is a good way to get a real insight, a locals with into what the area is really like as opposed to just the view of your tour operator. Tourism marketing specialists do a fantastic job of making all destinations seem perfect, almost too good to be true but let me tell you, that’s not always the case.

Once you have learned all you need to know about your chosen destination, you then need to find accommodation. You can find many hotel and apartment offers online as I’m sure you’re aware. However, when booking online, you should always read the small print. There are often lots of restrictions, particularly in holiday apartments. For example, if you’re looking to travel with pets, a lot of websites will not disclose the fact that no pets are allowed. This could seriously spoil your holiday if you turn up at your destination with your pet, only to be turned away.

All that is then left for you to do is enjoy your trip, so whether your on a package holiday or backpacking, be sure to prepare correctly.

Backpacking is fun if you enjoy outdoor activities. However, it can be dangerous if you are not equipped with the right knowledge of backpacking. If you know how to fix basic problems while backpacking, then you can get yourself out of troubles such as running out of food (or losing it to animals!), holes in your backpack and other similar events – that could turn into a disaster! I remember once my backpack was damaged and torn when it came in contact with a tree. Not knowing of a way to fix it, I had to manage - and it was very difficult. But the problem can be fixed by simply using duct tape; I just wish I had a roll on me at the time. Another problem is clogged poles, which can be very heavy and can result in you becoming too tired from lugging them around all day. So it can be fruitful if you use hollow poles, as they solve the issue – they are pretty light in comparison to the clogged poles.

One of the most common problems is an animal taking your food; solving this problem is as easy as pie, as the food should be firstly kept in a container and then it should be hung from the branch of a tree. This will prevent animals from taking the food, as most animals likely to take your food won’t be able to reach.
